VTAP assists Transitioning Service Members and Veterans connect with resources and opportunities in employment, education and entrepreneurship here in Virginia.

The VTAP Program works directly with the V3 Program to help all Veterans, to include retired service members and serving/retired members of the National Guard/Reserves.

Employment

Showcasing the tremendous talent of Virginia’s Veterans, one of the main objectives of VTAP is to increase employment opportunities for Veterans in the Commonwealth by connecting Veterans with military friendly employers. This is done in a unique way that puts Veterans seeking employment face to face with hiring managers ready and willing to bring Veterans into their workforce. Known as VTAP Recruiting Events, it’s an outstanding opportunity for Veterans to make a lasting impression with some of Virginia’s finest companies specifically looking for military talent. These events are held regularly throughout the Commonwealth with needs for all varieties of skill sets and specialties.

Education

For Veterans seeking a new career field after the military, a lot can be said for the world class educational institutions available right here in Virginia with two and four year degree plans. Currently, steps are being taken for more military service and training to be counted towards credits for specific courses at higher learning institutions, effectively reducing the time and monetary burden for Veteran students. Additionally, programs are available for those not necessarily looking for a degree, but specific certifications and licensing in fields such as manufacturing and information technology. These abbreviated and expedited programs are designed to target a Veteran’s training interest, which allows them to gain entry into their desired field and enter the workforce with the necessary skills as quickly as possible. Regardless of the avenue chosen, the common denominator is that all of these different possibilities establish a clear path to employability and success.

Entrepreneurial

With the high concentration of Veterans Virginia has, it’s necessary to have assistance readily available for those with ambitions of starting a business from the ground up, or growing an existing business. These invaluable resources enable those with a unique idea to seek out the assistance needed to turn that idea into a successful business for themselves and the Commonwealth. Virginia has a goal of diversifying its economy, one of the key ways to accomplish that is to ensure we allow the opportunity for growth and expansion in the private sector. Additionally, conferences and training events are hosted by partners in both the public and private sector throughout Virginia to educate Veteran entrepreneurs on programs and opportunities made available to them.
