2016 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award
Call for Entries: October 1 – December 31, 2015
The Freedom Award is the highest award given by the U.S. Government to civilian employers for exceptional support of their National Guard or Reserve employees’ since 1996 when the award began, over 220 employers have received the Freedom Award.
Nominees represent small (<500 employees), large (>500 employees), and public employers.
Past award recipients from Virginia have included Capitol One, Integrity Applications Inc., Dominion Resources, Computer Sciences Corp., Northrop Gruman, the City of Bedford, and Intel Corp.
To be in the running for the Freedom Award, at least one Guardsman, Reservist or Family Member employee must nominate your company!
The Freedom Award ceremony is held in Washington, D.C., for up to 15 deserving employers each year in August. This award recognizes employers who go above and beyond in supporting members of the Guard and Reserve – from continuing benefits and healthcare during deployments, to helping with home maintenance and sponsoring veteran hiring initiatives. Service members can thank employers for their exemplary support by submitting a Freedom Award nomination today.
The President will sign a proclamation declaring the last full week of August 2016 (or whichever week coincides with the Freedom Award ceremony) as National Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Week.
V3 and ESGR encourages Guardsmen, Reservists, or family members acting on their behalf, to submit nominations at www.FreedomAward.mil by Dec. 31, 2015. No submissions will be accepted after that date.
